The destructive potential of plastic is normally explained with a certain amount of “shock factor:” Rightly so. Pictures of choking sea animals, turtles with shells warped by 6-pack rings, huge floating piles of refuse ARE shocking and we need to see them to understand and change the problem.
This comedic, short film I made takes a slightly different tact. While working on an awareness-raising project with Environment California I experimented with personifying a turtle to help us understand the hardships our plastic heaps on marine animals. The result was absurd and hilarious.
The Tortoise and the Bag makes us laugh but also reminds us….
