Climate change is just the latest of many threats to the traditional culture of the pastoralist Maasai people of East Africa. But for many, it’s the one that’s finally forcing them to abandon their old ways, as repeated bouts of extreme weather lead them to give up their cattle.
At its surface, the conflict between these two tribes is about scarce resources in a region recently plagued by drought. But if you dig deeper, this story may be more about how inconceivably corrupt politicians exploit heightened tensions to gain political advantage.
I made this absurd short film in which a comedian personifies a turtle struggling with plastic bags in his environment. While it’s funny, the real intention is to drive home the point that our single use plastic bags cause problems for marine life and many other animals and birds.
